Afternoon Shoot-Out

An impromptu shoot out was organised at Mowbray. It had a battle of the Bridges feel to it. It was Perfect under pressure practice for the Upcoming Daly Cup Challenge in Port Alfred early next year.

The Shoot Out Competitors were: Previous Daly Cup Champion Murray King, who has been in shocking form of late, but can always turn it on.

Guru Florence Jnr who has been in impeccable form of late and narrowly lost out in the last running of the Daly Cup.

Current Daly Cup Holder Dayne Allenbrook, who is arguably in the form of his life after taking the Daly Cup Just a few short weeks ago so emphatically with a new record of 75.

So, the scene was set for an awesome 9-hole shootout. Things started well enough with all three players playing decent golf, with a few putts being missed here and there. Then disaster struck for Florence when his driver (pictured below) literally smashed to pieces. The top came clean off. His game never really recovered from there and he slowly fell away.

It was then down to a 2 horse race with King eeking out to a slight 1 shot lead with 2 to play. Allenbrook then pulled level and they stood on the 18th tee box all square. Both found the trees of the tee and had to play out to 100 for their seconds. King went first, sticking his ball to 20ft. Then Allenbrook produced a magical shot to 8ft. King duly missed his putt and Allenbrook was left with an 8ft putt to win the shootout. He lipped out and the shootout was tied.

Probably a fair result in the end as both players looked solid. This has set the stage for what will surely be an amazing Daly Cup in Port Alfred.

Jambles Charton will be making the trip up a few weeks early to get try and sink his balls in the 'shaved' greens of Kenton. I have heard that this is rather easy as the greens in Kenton are recently grown or 'young' and very easy to putt on.

The Name will also be in attendance in Kenton, but it is unsure whether he will be able to tear himself away from the ladies long enough to play some golf. He is still under a Daly Cup ban for his non-showing in the last Daly Cup.

The Bull Will also be floating around Kenton hoping to catch himself some British Fish. It has also been rumoured that Jambles and the Name are fishing too, but no catches have been confirmed as of yet.

Wednesday Woman #19

Again a little late, but only a day so gorrriiieee. This weeks wednesday woman is a model by the name of Louise Glover. She is 1 m 67 (5ft 6in) tall and has a 32DD-23-34 figure. Unfortunate really, enjoy.

Wednesday Woman #18

It has been a hectic week kids, so you must forgive me for the fact that the Wednesday Woman is 2 weeks late. Its totally unaccaptable I Know. GOOORRRIIEEE. Anyway, to make up, I have found a belter and her name is Carolina Ardohain. Mak name I know, but bear with me.

Daly Cup Official Rules

I must congratulate Dwayne on his victory earlier today. Well deserved I must say; he really took advantage of all the good breaks he got. He did leave out this part of his acceptance speech from his autobiography however, "I really want to dedicate this one to my little princess. It was her that allowed me to play today and without her permission I would never have won".

But while talking of the Daly Cup, I feel it is time to engrave the rules in stone. We have been making use of some temporary rules while getting the tournament off the ground, but I feel the teething time is over and I can now announce the 'Official Rules of the Daly Cup".

1. There shall be at least 2 times booked with a minimum of 6 players in total (two three balls for all you mathematics SG boys. We would hope that all effort would be made to get 8 players).

2. The current Daly Cup holder must be playing.

3. The Cup must be played over at least 18 holes.

4. The 18th hole (and only the 18th) must be played in medal format. i.e. no picking up and 'ringing' unless you feel you are completely out of the running.

5. The winner is the lowest net score for the full 18 holes.

6. In the case of a tie, the method of deciding a winner must be one of the following, to be decided by those involved.
6.1 The playing of a sudden death hole(s)
6.2 On the putting green
6.3 An epic game of Ching Chong Cha

In addition to these rules, it is highly recommended if possible that the pairings are adjusted after 9 holes so that the leaders at the half-way mark play together on the back 9.

These rules will only be adjusted for extreme reasons.

Finally I would like to invite all our readers to join myself and the current Daly Cup holder to a round of golf in the Kenton area early in January. Either at Royal Port Alfred, Fish River or Bushman Sands.

And ladies and gentleman, the cap is what you are playing for! Pecan Man is hoping this isn't going to be the closest he gets to this valuable prize especially since he is now using one of the hottest driver on tour thanks to father Christmas!

The NCC are Pushing it now

The Nadoes Cricket Club had their final fixture of the season on Saturday. This came in the form of a 1day game against Primrose.

The Ruth won the toss and chose to bat. The batting was opened by probably the two least in form batsmen, The Great Dane and Murray King. Things started well enough, 20/0 after 5 overs. Then Murray King tickled one to 2nd slip and was caught for 11, 20/1. Then the youngster Nick Zaaiman came in and looked uneasy, being dropped a few times. The bowling was good and the two batsmen went at a snails pace.

But the new ball was finally seen off without further wickets falling and after 20 overs the score was 65/1. Then the batters let loose and smashed the spinners to all parts of the ground. Nick Zaaiman was the caught behind for a well fought 31. Then the Guru came to the crease and took control from ball 1. In all the comotion, the Great Dane managed to bring up his maiden Nadoes 50, after being dropped on 49. He was caught on the boundary soon after for a well played 61.

Then the Guru and Ruth Smashed the ball around a bit and took the NCC to a very respectable total of 211/5 in their allotted 45 overs.

It was then the turn of the visitors, and with the Rocket Man in such devastating form it was not long before the wickets were tumbling. He was ably asisted by Vuni-barker and the Main Cheese who all picked up sticks. In the end they were rolled for 126 completing a resounding victory.

A stady fines evening followed that saw many of the younger Nadoes getting well smashed and the whole team ending up in Tiger. Well played to all and what a day!!

Daly Cup Thriller

A slightly windy but otherwise perfect Tuesday morning saw the staging of the 4th Daly Cup. It was a relatively strong field, boasting two previous champions. The event was marred by the withdrawl of the ladies favourite, The Name.

He cited the blustery conditions as his reason for pulling out. This was just not acceptable and the tournament organisers enlisted the services of the Playroom reporters to find the real story. These reporters uncovered some shocking information regarding the ladies man. It has now been confirmed that he was attending a doctors appointment to take care of a recurrence of the dissease that has plagued him from his Gap Year. The timing is co-incides with the arrival of an appaernt flame from England, a miss Georgie. This is disgrasceful behaviour and he has brought shame on himself. He will be banned from the Daly Cup until further notice.

This Startling discovery aside, the 7 remaining golfers set about their task, with Guru jnr making a birdie on the first hole and shooting out to an early lead. He held on to his lead right through the front nine. At the turn the Guru was leading, followed closely by The Great Dane 1 shot back and Jambles and Bevello Riva a further 3 back.

It was then that the 4 balls were shuffled so that the leaders were separated from the rif-raf and the game was on. I would just like to take thed time out to make special mention of the fact that our budding pro and innaugural Daly Cup winner, Murray King crashed to a 50 on the front nine. This left him 15 shots back at the turn. Ouch.

It was then that Great Dane made his move. Following up his birdie on nine with another on 10, he drew level with Guru and the game was on. With Guru faltering and Jambles falling further behind, it was left to the Daly Cup veteran to make the front running, with some superb putting and enormous driving, The Great Dane shot out to a 2 stroke lead with only 5 holes to play.

And that was the way it stayed till the last. The challenges of Jambles and Bevello Riva had wiltered away and it was just the Guru and The Great Dane down the home straight. A par on the last was good enough for the Great Dane to win his maiden Daly Cup by 3 strokes with an impressive score of 75.

In his post match interview he had this to say: "Guru was charging early on, and I knew I just had to stick with him. He polayed really well, but just couldn't keep it up. Im quite surprised at the level of my play, my form was average at best coming in to the tournament and I was not that confident. But, as soon as I started banging my driver, I knew I had a chance. It's great to finally win the Daly Cup and I hope that I can defend it in Kenton."
